LDI
THE LDI DIRECTOR ON "WHY THE NEED TO TRAIN"
The Leadership Development Institute is proud to have been serving the East London Community since 1988.
Cede funding from Johnson & Johnson paved the way for the Institute to begin its operations on the East London Campus of Rhodes University. Originally known as: The Institute for Social and Individual Development in Africa (ISIDA), this was followed by the Johnson & Johnson Leadership Development Institute and since 2004, has been known as THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE.

The LDI moved off campus to a centrally located state of the art facility, conducive to adult training, at the beginning of 2004. This facility boasts 3 fully equipped lecture rooms and spacious dining area in a secure, professional environment.

The LDI prides itself on the delivery of high quality, accredited programmes which strive to address the critical skills shortage in the region. Interventions designed to address these challenges include: Management Development Programme, Emerging Leaders Programme, Fundamentals & Intermediate Project Management Courses and a wide range of Skills Workshops. Another specialist area of the LDI is that of Team Effectiveness Programmes – these can be facilitated from a one-day session to a six day Wilderness adventure course depending on the client’s needs.

On the importance of ongoing staff development, Mr Peter Kemp, Director of the LDI, noted that when economic times are tough, the first instinct seems to be to retreat from the world and cut back on all we can. The best business minds urge that this is actually the time to develop your staff relentlessly so that your company is ahead of the game when things get better.
He also stressed the following:
·         The importance of choosing an accredited provider so that organisations can claim back levies paid to the SETA’s.
·         The importance of choosing to choose a provider with integrity and a proven track record.
·         The LDI are able to offer a “One stop shop” type of service from job assessments, identifying gaps in employee’s skills and then hopefully offering a solution to identified training requirements as well.

He also pointed out that the LDI is focused on maintaining the highest standards when it comes to training and the staff are focused on treating clients with respect and are empathetic to the fact that many of them have not been in a learning environment since leaving school.
The Institute has a large pool of world class facilitators with vast expertise. Depending on the requirements of a specific client or programme, they are brought in to facilitate the various courses on offer.

The LDI has a strong social responsibility focus and has been involved with the Workbench Centre in Pefferville for the last 15 years.
